With the engine switched off leave the starter motor in position and visually check the part where the spring juts out of the bell housing and , if it is sticking in the in position , give it a light tap with a small hammer to release it then try and see if it starts

Also check your battery votage .

it was stuck i released it but still same
was just cleaning all the connections from the battery to the starter taking all the nuts off to make sure good connection
and i notice a wire wit no end on near to to coil it comes from the main loom it is white and brown
on the coil i have two wires one to the plus one to the negative
is there only supposed to be two or more if anyone can help

I believe the wire is for the oil pressure switch in the block next to the fuel pump.

thx Mick as i have just looked and there is a wire attached to the oil pressure but it goes to a condenser , which is clearly wrong and useless
when i get chance i will sort that out
i tried putting a a spanner across the solenoid but nothing the solenoid is new and i have just changed the battery so fully charged

Have you got an earth wire from the timing cover on the engine to under the bolt holding the solenoid to the fibreglass ?

i will look tomorrow fifer thank you
i took my starter motor to a place which refurbished them today
to see what he says about it
as its a part of the elimination and move on to something else
but thank you for all your responses and wit your help we will get there in the end i hope
